Policy paper – Road freight transport on the way to carbon neutrality

European truck manufacturers are ready to lead the transition of transport and logistics to carbon neutrality. This transformation of the sector will be unprecedented, both in speed and scale.
To that end, this ACEA policy paper sets out three key building blocks for achieving carbon neutrality in road freight transport. These building blocks were agreed by the CEOs of Europe’s major truck manufacturers as the starting point for shaping a ‘transformation roadmap’ for the heavy‐duty transport system.
These interdependent factors are all crucial, and must be put into place simultaneously:
- Functional, reliable and efficient vehicles
- A dense network of charging and refueling infrastructure suitable for trucks
- A coherent policy framework which enables and drives the transition to carbon neutrality
