Cross-industry roundtable on infrastructure
ACEA hosted a unique cross-industry roundtable earlier this month, bringing together key players involved in the decarbonisation of road transport.
Indeed, many stakeholders have a role to play in ramping up e-mobility and meeting the EU’s climate targets. These include for instance:
- The auto industry with its innovative product offer
- Governments with investments in infrastructure
- Energy providers with green energy solutions and investments in renewables
- Grid operators, providing an affordable and customer-oriented charging experience
The aim of this roundtable event was to discuss the contributions that the different industry sectors can make, as well as the political framework needed to make the transition to zero-emission mobility.
Setting the context
Andreas Tschiesner, Senior Partner, McKinsey, set the scene for the discussions by presenting some key findings of the recently-published ‘European Electric Vehicle Charging Masterplan’.
Walter Goetz, Head of Cabinet of European Commissioner Vălean, gave the political context, reviewing the relevant legislative proposals under the Fit for 55 package, notably the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) and Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), as well as the different financing mechanisms.
High-level debate
Representatives from the automotive, energy generation, electricity and charging infrastructure industries came together to share perspectives in a dynamic discussion, moderated by MEP Ismail Ertug (AFIR rapporteur).

Call for action
The event concluded with the signing of a joint-statement urging the European Parliament and Council to adopt strong, interconnected policies to accelerate the transition to zero-emission and CO2-neutral mobility.
