Message from the Secretary General – July 2014

Brussels, 1 July 2014 – June saw the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Board of Directors meetings, which reunite the CEOs of ACEA’s member companies.

From ACEA Secretary General, Erik Jonnaert

The discussions about the future of the sector – and about how the industry needs the support and cooperation of policy makers – are now more relevant than ever given the election in June of a new European Parliament and the upcoming appointment of a new team of European Commissioners, who will soon take up their roles in the EU institutions.

During the General Assembly ACEA’s President, Carlos Ghosn, launched ACEA’s Manifesto for a Competitive Automobile Industry, which shares our industry’s demands to the new European Parliament and eventual European Commissioners. The manifesto details the three pillars for a stronger growth agenda for the automobile industry in Europe.

  • Driving innovation
  • Fostering growth through international trade
  • Building a supportive regulatory framework

In the coming weeks and months, ACEA will be working with Europe’s new policy makers to call for the reforms necessary to sharpen the competitiveness of the automobile industry – one of the cornerstones of Europe’s economy.
