Webinar – Why a new ETS is needed to make road transport fit for 55

ACEA, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), and the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC), are jointly organising a webinar, ‘Why a new ETS is needed to make road transport fit for 55’, on 26 April, 16.30-18.00.
Ahead of the European Parliament plenary vote on ETS in May, and with the participation of MEP Peter Liese, who is rapporteur of this dossier, this promises to be a most timely discussion between industry, policy makers, research institutions and NGOs.
The emission trading system for buildings and road transport (BRT ETS) proposed in the Fit for 55 package is a key policy tool to decarbonise road transport. But high price uncertainty presents a major political and economic challenge – especially in light of the current energy price crisis. This makes finding political agreement challenging.
This webinar clarifies why carbon pricing is needed to decarbonise road transport, and how the BRT ETS could be implemented to balance political concerns with economic necessities.
