Tune in to hear ACEA President Zipse speak at Politico event ‘The race to greener cars’ on 22 June

Oliver Zipse, ACEA President and CEO of BMW, will reiterate the EU auto industry’s commitment to the fight against climate change during a Politico Live event to be held on 22 June at 14.00 CEST.
The event ‘Fasten your seatbelts: the race to greener cars’ takes place just a few weeks ahead of the release of the European Commission’s Fit for 55 Package. This package, which includes a review of the CO2 standards for cars as well as the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Directive, is of crucial importance to the automotive sector as it gears up for the transition to zero-emission mobility.
Indeed, green vehicles and infrastructure for charging and refuelling are two sides of the same coin – both need to be rolled out at a high pace. At the same time, we cannot forget that this seismic shift will have a significant impact on workers across the automotive value chain, so Europe needs to ensure that no one gets left behind.
One thing is clear: the race to greener cars will require a concerted effort from all parties involved. After Mr Zipse’s opening remarks, the event will therefore bring together a number of different perspectives: from the European Commission, European Parliament, the automotive industry as well as trade unions. On the panel:
- Sigrid de Vries, secretary general, European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA)
- Bas Eickhout, MEP (Greens/EFA, Netherlands), vice-chair of the Greens/European Free Alliance and member of the ENVI Committee
- Judith Kirton-Darling, deputy secretary general, IndustriALL
- Kristian Schmidt, director for land transport, DG MOVE, European Commission
